Q. Why should I Advertise during a Recession?

Even the most intoxicated optimists have had to concede that the “R” word has had a devastating effect on many local businesses. We’ve seen many close, people have lost their jobs and for the remainder our standard of living has plummeted as lower wages and higher prices have become the norm.

As we present our answer to the question, we understand that most will be suspicious as the advice comes from AdsPayUSA, a media company that has everything to gain by propping up their marketing concept in a downturned economy and we apologize for the plug, but at least we hope you understand our perspective.

Example:

Most of us who live here in the desert are familiar with the concept of competitive yard care. Let’s say that Yard A is maintained and manicured 24 / 7 by Jim, a retired schoolteacher who has the benefit of daily timed sprinklers.

Across the street, Mary a single mum with two growing boys and a chocolate lab has a yard that’s the scourge of the neighborhood. Though untidy, Mary does take pride in her largely untended rose bushes and begonias and simply does her best.

It’s mid June and 120 degrees when the city puts a ban on hose pipes and automatic yard watering. Jim heads back east where he’ll wait it out at one of his kids houses. Mary is determined to keep what is left in her yard alive. She decides to conserve water in other ways and sprinkle them after the sun goes down each evening.

It’s not long before people start to notice the decline and death of Jim’s fine yard and notice Mary’s has become the neighborhoods best. When the ban is lifted no one can catch up to Mary’s yard as she has now made it her hobby. When Jim returns he is so dispirited that he decides to take up a new hobby, ceramics.

This is exactly what happens in a recession when the shortage hits. Many companies make deep cuts or forgo their marketing all together as did Jim. All they are doing is creating an opening for a smaller player to achieve market dominating visibility without any additional expense as did Mary. Obviously the demand for some services will wane in a recession, but that is far from the reality that those same past demands have totally evaporated.

Since World War II, studies by the American Business Press have shown conclusively that advertising aggressively during recession, solidifies customer base, takes business away from less aggressive competitors and positions the aggressors for better future growth during recovery.

Q. Tell Me Why I Need To Advertise and Then Convince Me Why AdsPay.

Every local or national successful company consistently promotes themselves through many medias. Their single objective is to increase results and ultimately ward off their legitimate competition. But before you commit a portion of your hard earned revenue to an ongoing ad program, maybe you should consider what the pros could be:

  • You’re in startup mode and need to let potential customers know you exist.
  • You’ve been around a while and people still don’t know you exist.
  • Your competition advertises and is killing you.
  • You have a deep seated desire to put that same pressure on your competition.
  • You think you have a unique product or service.
  • You are convinced you have a unique product or service.
  • You want to be the next IBM / Nike.
  • You see everyone else advertising.
  • Your wife / husband / partner / buddy / dogs, think it’s a good idea.

On the other hand maybe you should consider what the cons could be:

  • You have no idea where to begin.
  • You don’t believe you have the money to really give the ball a kick.
  • You believe your competition has the resources to outspend you.
  • You’re unsure if your product is that unique.
  • You are not ready to commit to a long term program.
  • You are convinced advertising is an expense and not an investment.
  • Your best friend had a bad experience with advertising.
  • You’re quite sure that you’ve never been influenced by an ad in your life.
  • Your wife / husband / partner / buddy / dogs, think it’s a bad idea.

We’re sure you can come up with many more pros and cons but the reality is that after reading this far, you are in all probability now thinking whether or not you really need to advertise in the traditional sense. As one particular competitor of ours stated after they had copied our product almost verbatim:

“At the end of the day, it all comes down to results.”

But how do you create those results is the $64,000 question. Do you look at your competitors, offer the same and sell for less. Maybe that works for Wal-Mart with their colossal buying power but at AdsPayUSA we have to say, “come on guys, show some originality.” Through years of education, experience,  research and study we know the 3 basic ingredients required to create the results we strive to achieve on behalf of the businesses who place their trust in us.

Time, Information and Money.

So when we address the original question “Tell Me Why I Need to Advertise,” you should give major consideration and ask yourself if you can devote sufficient time, information and money needed to create a well structured and well managed advertising program. If you can’t, then maybe you should think twice about even starting.

Back in 1996 we introduced shared direct mail to Mohave County. Over the next 15 years we re-shaped, re-modeled, tweaked and made the necessary changes to move with the times.

“A ’66 Mustang is still a Ford Mustang, but looks nothing like today’s model.”

Today as we approach our 16th year we are even more excited as to what the future holds for not only us, but for all our friends and customers past, present or future. We realize that web sites, hand held devices and social media are growing at an incredible rate and QR (quick reference) codes are upon us. We also realize that the next generation will conduct business in different ways as proven with Groupon.com and Amazon backed LivingSocial.com, where discounts, deals and offers will still be on that generations shopping list.

In 2012 AdsPayUSA will continue to lead the way has it has done for the previous 15 years. We will be implementing new additional promotions and ideas to compliment the Number 1 direct mail publication here in Mohave County:

  •  A huge AdsPay radio campaign with tagged references referring back to each individual business at no extra cost.
  •  A focus on the new streamlined www.AdsPayUSA.com website where viewers will be offered incentives to print on line coupons and the ability to expedite those coupons via their hand held devices.
  • A huge promotional launch of www.Khopon.com with minimum 50% off deals which will be promoted through all our websites and electronically to in excess of 5,000 registered users.
  • Additional on line ads and video commercials at www.AZInews.com for all our clients. This site recently topped 60,000 unique viewers in a 30 day cycle and regularly tops 2,000 unique views per day.
  • A huge focus on similar professional business video commercials airing on Youtube and all our websites.
  • Links to your individual website from your on-line ads as part of our service to you the business owner.
  • Individual web-site design and hosting to compliment your AdsPay ads.
  • Ongoing loyalty bonus’s for all our business partners.
  • Hugely discounted promotional items for all our business partners.

We know it’s not just about results and we certainly know that egos do not pay the bills. We do believe it’s about relationships, innovation and new ideas as we commit to move with the times.

As one advertising guru said back in 2005 when asked how it was and how you needed to be in past sales presentations:

“All you had to do was explain why your product was better than your competitors as you spelled out the features and benefits, the fees they currently paid and the incredible savings you could offer them,…….. But the problem arose when the customers became afraid of what the salesperson was not telling them.”

Just tell them the truth. Hopefully, you’re now convinced why we believe it’s advantageous to work with AdsPay. No hype, no false promises, just great new ideas creating great new results.
